Diplomatic Relations & Forigen Affairs

Military Alliances & Political Stances

Frostfällt maintains a carefully balanced foreign policy centered on preserving its sovereignty and supporting strategic allies.

Allied Nations (Wartime Pledges)

Dramor, Balthimore, Halfor

These three nations represent Frostfällt's closest allies. Formal defensive pacts ensure that military aid flows in times of conflict. Frostfällt has recently committed military resources to support Balthimore against Falmathian aggression, a significant commitment reflecting the strength of their alliance.

Neutral Relations

Dregor, Averician Islands

These nations maintain cordial but non-committal relationships with Frostfällt. Trade occurs, but no military pacts exist. Both nations respect Frostfällt's strength and prefer peaceful coexistence.

Antagonistic Relations

Grobion, Falmathion

  • Grobion: Historical tensions and ideological differences create a cold diplomatic relationship. Both nations maintain military readiness but avoid direct conflict.
  • Falmathion: An aggressive expanding power that has drawn Frostfällt's ire through relentless expansion. Frostfällt actively opposes Falmathian aggression through military support to allies and potential direct intervention should Balthimore's survival be threatened.

Trade & Cultural Exchange

Despite political tensions, Frostfällt maintains trade relationships with most nations. High-quality steel, enchanted weapons, premium furs, and magical artifacts are exported widely. In return, Frostfällt imports grains, exotic fruits, medicinal herbs, and rare materials from warmer climates.

Spiritual & Planar Relations

Frostfällt maintains a unique relationship with Murkwurdheim, the mirror plane of the material world. Unlike standard planar travel (which has been sealed for 10,000 years), Frostfällt has preserved rare ritualistic knowledge allowing limited spiritual communication with Murkwurdheim. This knowledge is closely guarded and used only for matters of state importance.

Capital City: Schneefällt

Schneefällt is the crown jewel of Frostfällt and one of the most remarkable cities in all of Tazzurath. Carved partially from ice and anchored in living stone, the city exists on multiple levels—some carved into the frozen ground, others rising majestically above it, crowned with towers of crystallized ice that catch and refract magical light in breathtaking displays.

Overview

A sprawling, multi-tiered metropolis of approximately 150,000 inhabitants, Schneefällt is the political heart and commercial nexus of Frostfällt. The city combines austere military efficiency with surprising beauty. Wide avenues are lit by enchanted crystals that cast prismatic light through ice pillars. During the Midwinter Feast, when massive ice caverns form in the streets from accumulated snow, the entire city transforms into a labyrinth of glowing crystalline formations.

Districts & Key Locations

The Royal Quarter

Royal Citadel

The beating heart of the kingdom, this ancient structure was built by Titans and has been maintained and expanded by successive generations. The Citadel serves multiple purposes:

  • Fortress: Magically reinforced and capable of withstanding siege, plague, and even planar intrusion
  • Government Center: Where the King and Council of Generals conduct the affairs of state
  • Refuge: Capable of sheltering the entire population of Schneefällt in times of extreme crisis
  • Magical Battery: The Citadel's ancient runes draw ambient magical energy, making it a source of power for the city's infrastructure

The Royal Citadel is surrounded by the Eisenwand (Iron Wall), a magically reinforced steel rampart with both defensive and offensive magical measures built into its structure.

Eissmann's Court

A grand palace adjacent to the Citadel, serving as the royal residence and venue for state functions. Elaborate feasts, royal audiences, diplomatic negotiations, and celebrations occur here. The court is famous for its hospitality and the quality of its feasts, which draw nobility and dignitaries from across Tazzurath.

The Spiritual Quarter

The beating commercial heart of the city, an enormous plaza surrounded by permanent structures and featuring countless merchant stalls. The Central Market operates year-round, protected from the worst weather by elaborate magical barriers that maintain breathable air while keeping out wind and snow.

Merchandise includes:

  • Weapons and armor
  • Raw materials and crafting supplies
  • Furs, hides, and preserved goods

  • Exotic imports from southern lands

Trade Warehouses

State-run and private warehouses line the merchant district, storing goods for trade routes and local distribution. These are heavily guarded and protected by magical wards against theft and decay.

The Common Quarters

Residential Districts

Most of Schneefällt's population lives in efficiently designed residential areas, carved partially into the frozen ground. Homes are heated by Rune-Forges and lit by Glow Crystals. While not luxurious, they are warm, safe, and well-maintained. The government provides housing assistance for the poorest citizens.

The Taverns & Inns

Schneefällt has numerous establishments catering to travelers, merchants, and locals:

  • The Frostborn's Rest: A respectable inn catering to merchants and traveling nobility
  • The Frozen Throne: A tavern popular with military personnel
  • The Glowing Hearth: A quieter establishment frequented by scholars and mages
  • Various Smaller Establishments: Each with its own character and clientele

Many taverns feature Illusory Arena gaming platforms, where patrons can engage in competitive games and training simulations.

Schools & Libraries

Frostfällt maintains several educational institutions:

  • Royal Academy of Arcane Arts: Training ground for battle-mages and runesmiths
  • Military Academy: Officer training for aspiring commanders
  • The Great Library: Repository of knowledge, including restricted sections on Titan history and planar lore
  • Trade Apprenticeship Centers: Where young people learn practical skills

Lower Schneefällt (The Undercity)

Beneath the surface city lies an extensive network of carved passages and chambers:

  • Deep Refuges: Emergency shelters capable of housing thousands during catastrophic weather or warfare
  • Ancient Titan Halls: Partially explored ruins of original Citadel construction, containing mysteries yet unsolved
  • Military Barracks: Underground training grounds and staging areas for military forces
  • Storage Vaults: Protected repositories for state treasures and strategic supplies
  • The Frozen Treasury: Where the kingdom's wealth in precious metals and gems is stored

The Eisenwand (Iron Wall)

Surrounding Schneefällt and anchored to the Royal Citadel, this magically reinforced steel rampart:

  • Stands 80 feet high with additional underground foundations penetrating 40 feet below the surface
  • Features Guard Towers: Spaced every 200 feet, manned around the clock
  • Incorporates Offensive Magic: Rune circles capable of casting protection spells, offensive blasts, and magical barriers
  • Maintains Enchanted Gates: The primary gates can only be opened by those magically authorized by the King
  • Has Never Been Breached: A matter of immense pride to the kingdom

The Arcane Infrastructure

Schneefällt's entire infrastructure is powered by magical systems:

  • The Thread (Arcane Wi-Fi): Tele-crystals placed throughout the city maintain a magical communication network
  • The Glowgrid: Thousands of Glowstones and Glow Crystals provide illumination
  • Heating Network: Rune-Forges in district centers distribute warmth through enchanted pipes
  • Water System: Wells and snow-melting systems feed into purified reservoirs
  • Waste Processing: Underground channels with Runic Cleansing Stones process sewage

Climate & Urban Design

Schneefällt's architecture is specifically designed to withstand extreme conditions:

  • Sloped Roofs: Designed to shed snow and prevent accumulation weight damage
  • Embedded Heating: Buildings have integral Rune-Forge heating to prevent freezing
  • Double-Walled Construction: Provides insulation against extreme cold
  • Connected Passages: Underground tunnels connect major buildings, allowing movement during blizzards
  • Strategic Heights: Critical infrastructure is positioned on elevated terrain to remain accessible during deep snowfall

Seasonal Transformation

During the Midwinter Feast, Schneefällt undergoes a remarkable transformation. The accumulated snow creates natural ice caverns and structures throughout the city. These formations are carved and shaped by mages into magnificent structures, creating an temporary city of ice that exists for a brief window before melting or being crushed by further snowfall. This period is the most beautiful and celebratory time of year in the kingdom.
